It’s true, we took last week off from teaching! Not because we wanted to, but because Whole Foods had a private event in the kitchen.
Although we didn’t have any cooking classes this week, we had no problem staying busy.
As many of you know, Peter and I have been running The Healthetarians by ourselves since we founded the organization back in January. And just a few weeks ago, we decided we needed help!
We weren’t sure if anyone would be interested in helping our organization, as we don’t have the funds to be paying any staff yet. So we asked around, posted some ads for interns and volunteers and were happily surprised by the response we received. Everyone we reached out to wanted to help! AND…they wanted to do more than we asked!

So rather than teaching, we were busy interviewing volunteers for our awesome kids cooking classes. All of the applicants were amazing, very passionate and willing to learn. It was refreshing to meet others who want to make a positive impact on the next generation.
We held the interviews at Chaco Canyon Café in the University District. We had so much fun that we decided we must have all our interviews at Chaco Canyon Café!
While we were there, we met the store manager, Arielle. She is awesome and very willing to help The Healthetarians. That made us appreciate Chaco even more – but even if Arielle wasn’t such a Gem, the food definitely speaks for itself….YUM!
We also met with a friend of ours, who is a social media guru and managed to teach us more than we ever thought was possible in a quick 2-hour session. We’re still reading over our notes and trying to take it all in. With that being said, if you’re not following us on Twitter now, you should. Big improvements and cool stuff is coming
your way soon
We also shot our first video!!!!
Its launch date is Tuesday, July 17th 2012 at 7am and will be up until August 15th 2012! Just 30 days, that’s it.
Okay, let me explain. It’s not just any video…it’s a Kickstarter video! If you don’t know what Kickstarter is don’t worry, I didn’t either
Kickstarter is an online funding tool that allows people to financially support projects. When not teaching or promoting our classes, we’ve been working on the next step for The Healthetarians, which is The Next-Generation Health Tour (NGHT).
The NGHT is happening this fall. The current plan is to teach cooking classes in 13 different cities from Seattle to San Diego. We’re basically teaching for 3 months straight, among other things (more details coming this week on the site).
This has been a big project to plan but even bigger to fund, so we’re asking for the help of our friends, community and fans. But don’t take our word for it, check out Kickstarter for yourself, and make sure you check out our video on Tuesday!
And if that wasn’t enough for the week we also…went Camping! In Potholes, Washington…
We didn’t hate it but we didn’t love it. If you’re wondering what kind of food The Healthetarians bring camping…Think raw pancakes, chia cereal, fresh fruit and big salads (w/dressing on the side to avoid sogginess)!
Lastly we want to thank everyone who has been showing us support and helping the organization grow! We received a lot of love last week and we are truly grateful
Healthy Regards,
Sarah & Peter
