Week 3: And Why We Think the 2-Day Workshops are A BLAST!

I can’t believe we are already finished with week 3 of Healthetarians cooking classes! This summer is flying by. Peter and I are having so much fun :)

This week we taught two Exploration Workshops and one Healthy Hero’s class.

I decided that I like the workshops a little more….

The Workshops really allow the experience to transform. Rather than us just teaching healthy recipes to our students, we’re educating them in a fun and engaging way.

Our Food Exploration classes are 2-days long, giving us a lot of time to connect with the students and them with us. On the first day we complete a sustainable art project, this month it has been decorated mason jars.

On day 2, the students make a recipe to fill their mason jars with; lately it’s been our Apple Crunch Cereal or our Pineapple Pico.

The art projects gives us time to chat and really allows us to get to know our students, find out what kind of foods they like and don’t like and teach them about the ingredients we are going to be working with that day.

On day two, students feel very comfortable and very talkative sharing their favorite recipes. We often hear stories of how they helped mom in the kitchen the night before with dinner (we love to hear these). During the second class we spend the entire time cooking, laughing and eating. And on day two it is especially hard to say good bye! But lately they have been coming back for other classes…and we love that!

We are hosting our food exploration workshops all summer long twice a week, definitely worth checking out ;)

On another Note we will be at the Wallingford Farmers Market in Seattle, WA this Wednesday from 3:30pm-6pm.  We would love to meet you and hear any ideas or things you would like to see in our classes.

Lastly we have some BIG news coming up about Our Next-Generation Health Tour. We can’t share any details yet but soon, very soon. So stay tuned.
